hello all,
I am a Cracker (For fun, I dont not condone piracy, I buy all my games). And i have recently discovered that the file protect.dll, that is located in some StarForce games, is the culprit. I successfully opened the rd3.exe (Toca Race Driver 3 EXE File) and the protect.exe (StarForce Loader) Files in W32DASM, yet when i go to open protect.dll, it displays a Windows XP Error Report message, I have also tried it on redhat 8, and am wondering if anyone knows of any references that are expressed in the games exe file, and the ASM coding for that, if you can tell me the exact offset, ill happilly attempt to make a fix for it, and will distribute it everywhere possible. I hope this helps you and me to be able to play our legit games without stuffing up our computers, 3dmonkey3000 http://share4free.ath.cx |

Then your not a cracker, if you dont understand why the file was like that.
Its been wrapped, i.e packed with the protection, only way you will see the coding is with a proper debugger and quite possibly the original game so it can load and you can be able to dump the coding it unpacks. Then it involves finding out the OEP, rebuiling the IAT and possibly fixing checksums and the likes. The exe for the game is merely the loader to load the real exe which is contained in the dll file. |

For all I know SoftICE is pretty useless nowadays as almost any protection blacklists it and has countermeasures against it. I think most real crackers have their own debugging tools that never gets released to avoid blacklisting.. I could be wrong of course but I think it gotta be that way.

Wouldnt matter I would outtalk you anyways :P Do I have the skills? I just told you about the dll file and why you cant debug it. Any amateur cracker knows that info. The reason for your error msg is simple, its the protections anti-debugger in action. It will cause a buffer overflow when a debugger is trying to debug it. Also its compressed, so even using HIEW, Hackman or any other Hex Editor wont work. You set a continuous loop and when the game is running in the background you can then dump the sections of the program and join them. But ill ask a question, what is the OEP that I mentioned in my previous post? |
