I'm thinking of buying a new DVD-RW drive and I have about £100 to spend. I was wondering what, one I should get? as I want it to be able to backup my growing collection of Games which seem to have either protected with SafeDisc v3.x and SecuRom Securom v4.x/5.x the majority of the time.
I was think ing along the lines of a Liteon or maybe a Asus drive, as I have heard that these drives have a good reputation of being able to backup these protections. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

there isn't "what the best is " thing man.few protections are hardware dependent.safedisc and securom can be bucked up easily with whatever you hae

SafeDisc and SecuRom are hardware dependent! I cannot back up the latest with my drives which are:
Toshiba 1502 DVD-ROM Pioneer DVR-106 DVD-RW That's why i'm asking, as you cannot back them up with any drive, you have to have the right drive(s) to do it. |

CloneCD mostly, but I have used Alcohol 120% aswell a few times. I find that CloneCD usually does the trick.

well clonecd had vd as you said.clonecd is crap use alcohol man.onlu latest securom is hardware dependent but most drives work.clone cd has a profile called protected games right?crap.use alcohol 120%(it's the best)or download alcoholer and put the protection on and let clonecd do the rest.in safedisc games you get an error at the beginning right?

Yeah they are read errors, alot of them at the start so it takes a while for it to read the disc at first, but as soon as it passes that, everything goes at the normal speed.

I will give it a go, but I don't think it'll work, because as I said these games are hardware reliant, and I wouldn't get a propper backup 1:1.
I'll let you know how I get on though. Thanks for your input!

The Best Isn't Plextor
What hurts Plextor is their service and support policies.
Plextor's answer to a simple eject button issue is to send the unit back and using their upgrade warranty program, buy a refurb unit of my choice. On the surface that doesn't seem like a bad deal. However, I pay shipping both ways and still get a refurb unit for only $20 US less than what a new retail product would cost. So factor in the shipping charges and their replacement would cost me just as much as a new retail package! Plextor needs to model their replacement program after ABit and Western Digital. Western Digital warranties their hard drives for up to 3 years. ABit still replaces their P2 and P3 motherboards, no charge! As long as you don't have any problems with the Plextor then it is a good drive. From now on I will go with the Liteon drives. |
