If it's loading everything up ok then why are you taking it back to the store?
Mine makes two small clicks initially and then boots everything fine. The two clicks are made by the lens focusing on the disc. Simple way to tell how good yr laser is in an unmodded ps2. Back up a dvd movie and see if that plays in there. If it does then no laser problems.

well what i was thinking was 2 clicks it's the begining of the end.
Maybe loads everything today but tommorrow or a month from now who knows. but i have also heard from others that say it is normal. johnjohn13

yea i just modded a v9 and the drive was a clicking mess unknown why i just returned the ps2 to store,and remodded and 0 issues.
i think the v9s are getting really cheap parts even cheaper than before

Could be a wise decision. Sony need to be careful, because anyone thinking of getting a new PS2 is gonna be thinking twice after this...
