Whats the difference about NO-CD and CRACK?

Isnt it the same thing? Cuz "crack" threads are closed while "no-cd" threads are allowed to exist.

A fixed exe is an exe which has had it's commercial copy protection removed (eg Safedisk, Securom). It may still have normal CD-Checks

A no-cd is as above but with all the cd-checks removed.

A crack is a generalisation of the two terms above. A crack can be a fixed exe or no-cd crack.

why people with original games want NO-CDs so badly? I only see reason for no-cds for pirated games!

Not entirely correct!

Legitimate users of orginal CD's/DVD's use NoCD's/Cracks/Fixed EXE's for conveniance, so they can put their original CD/DVD back in its case and not keep having to get it out and keep putting the CD/DVD in the drive each time you want to play the game.

This may not be problem for you, keep putting the disc in each time you want to play, but for others it's a pain in the ***, so that's why people ask for them!

This also creates a 'double edged sword' scenario, as these NoCD's/cracks etc, as you state, can be used for pirated games. But I just point out there is a valid reason to use them.

I, like many other people, have got many many games installed on my hard drives. As said above it's a pain to dig out the cds for each play.

In addition, constantly checking the cds slows the game down due to the access speeds much slower than your hard drive. This can cause the game to stop while the cd is spun up ---> not good.

Some copy protections will not work on some systems due to glitches. Some copy protections will not run because of finding certain software installed on the system. This is very unfair to the end user - in some cases, which I have experienced, you are unable to play your original game without a crack because of this.

Another reason why is because using too much your CD/DVD rom will reduce it's lifetime and sometimes you don't remember where's your game (my fu.. brother) always lends my games to his friends

sincerely, imo, its cheaper to buy new CD/DVD drives and better to search for your CDs than buying new giant HDs to accomodate all DVDs, CDs and games you buy.

Even more cuz its b****** to speak about lifetime of CD/DVD drives, since its much more common to lose your expensive HD than a cheap CD Drive. Thats why people even invented RAID and such... cuz HDs are much more prone to failure.

I wont say YOU guys are not telling the truth, but I think most people who say they get no-cds for their ORIGINAL cds, are in fact liars and in fact want no-cds for pirated games.

the EULA of games prohibits him of lending games to his friends... unless you first desinstall the game from your hard drive. In that case, at least according to the EULAs, playing a game in your HD while the original game is lent to another person is as bad as a pirated game... EULAs are stupid. I think EVERYBODY should return the softwares to the stores saying "i dont agree to the EULA, I want my money back". In 2 days no more software would come with these stupid EULA rules. But of course, for that, you need mass adesion... which will never happen.

Acceshigh, maybe u should research b4 u dare to accuse gamers of piracy cos they use no-cd, yes i agree many gamers use it to run copied games, but i for one, have been gaming for over 10 years now, so as u can understand i accumulate loads and loads of games, so i actually preffer having them on display as i do (and very proud of i am) and than having to fill my desk with them cos i need the cd, so conclusion, i get a no-cd patch, its the simple matter of wanting to keep my "money" fresh and not having "broken notes" get me?, and im sure many of the people in this forums have the same inttention as i do, then again, guns were invented supposedly to defend ourselfs in the early times, but theres more murders than acts of defense with them involbed, so by the same rule, theres more pirates using nocd cracks than legitemate owners, but hey, world sucks, get used to it.

I am accusing users of pirated games of piracy, not all gamers. As I said, I do believe many of the forum use cracks for good purposes, but I bet many use them for piracy.
