Version 9 is a bit more tricky than the versions 5 to 8 as the solder connections on the underside of the board are no longer to nice big square solder pads but to small coated vias. Does take a little bit longer as you have to very carefully remove the coating from the vias before you can solder onto them.
As for performance, your chipped ps2 will be fine as long as you use good quality media to back up your originals on to. Start using cheap media and you'l start frazzing yr laser. Regards
