Hdd ?

I was wondering how to put a HDD in my playstation, I mean the one where you patch it. Will any HDD fit in the PS2 or is there wires you have to hook up. Or is it possible to use the one sony has with my apple pro without having to take it out every time I wanna use it?

the IDE & Power connector are on the network adaptor and you can use any hdd that fits to these connectors.
well, for sony one, you should take it out everytime with the apple chip unless you get a dms3 chip or put a switch between 5V & 12V hdd power wires.

You don't need to take out the 3rd party hdd everytime you want play a backup.
there is a file (atad.irx) in the game disc that should be patched, then you burn the patched image on dvd and install the game on hdd.

Do you have any suggestions on a HDD that fits and how hard is it to patch the game?

I have four different size of maxtor hdd and all of them fits perfect, also seagate hdd will fit , the only hdd that won't fit is western digital hdds.
for patching game you should hex edit the file in hex editor and put it back to the image, there's a thread in ultimate info sticky that shows how you can install the RE:O on 3rd party hdd, that method also works for socom2, however there's no new map for socom2 that you can donwload it to hdd.

We should make a sticky for hard drives that are known to work. I'm about to buy a drive specifically for my PS2. Anyone know if there's a max size yet? I'm probably gonna get a 7200 rpm 120 gigger just to be safe.

yeah that 30GB maxtor will work, even I used an old 20GB maxtor, however I didn't see any huge improvement in RE:O load time on that old hdd because of its crappy performance, untill I put a 60GB 7200 rpm maxtor and load time dropped to 2-3 sec.
get a 7200rpm hdd and you won't regret it.

cool!
thanx!
i'm really not concerned about game installs.
hoping maybe some media player support in the future.
i really wish sony would just buy the media player rights then maybe they would do some nice things with it.(not that it's not cool)
i'm hearing that media player may no longer be updated.
rumor?
