Backing up ps2 games

I am attempting to backup some of my ps2 games. As suggested, I used Nero 6. Everything appeared to have completed successfully, however the backed up copy will not load in the ps2 console.

We need more info to assist you. What type of burner are you using? ps2 version? mod chip? Some PS2's can use DVD-R or DVD+R. The Ultimate sticky will provide useful info in your quest. Also as Warlock mentioned, try a search as well.

Thanks for all the info so far....The Ultimate Sticky is very useful and I can experiment from here. However, I do have a mod chip, now I cannot remember what type it is...can you assist me on determining that? I am using a Game SHark 2 and my burner is a LG Super Multi which can copy in any format.

As far as software goes, I have DVD Xcopy, Nero, DVD Shrink, DVD Decryptor..

You should be able to ask your installer about the mod chip you are using. Mod chips play an important role as they have different boot procedures for ps1, ps2 backup games.
As far as media goes, In my experiences, Ritek Go4 DVD-R media has been excellent for me. There are several different types of software you can use as well. I use Record Now Deluxe, Nero 6, and Roxio 6. The original must be in excellent condition with no scratches or smudges, as they will sometimes be recorded as data and not work correctly. Most of this you will find in previous threads though so do some searchs. Happy Gaming and let us know how you progress.

I have determined(through the help of SPEDMETAL's verification thread) that my PS2 is a 30001R v5 or 6.

I cannot determine the type of mod chip and cannot remember who put it in 2 years ago.

I have backed up 2 different DVD games, one using DVD decryptor and one using Nero 6.

Once the game shark 2 is loaded and I put in the back up game(either one) the console just seems to sit and stall.

I have read just about every thread in the forum on different advice, etc. and everything appears to back up correctly.

Finally, if I have a very early MOD chip would this prevent it or is there something else I should try first.

Many thanks...

If you have a NEO 2.2 it wont play dvd backups in a v5 or v6. These consoles dont support the EA swap method.(Press and hold reset for 5 sec, release and tray will open ect: see boot methods sticky). Also, some backups need to be patched, The best solution is to update to a DUO chip as long as you dont have any laser problems.

Are you sure Sped. If I remeber correctly you could play backups with a neo 2.2. As a matter of fact, the way I remember it is that the difference betwee the neo 2.2 and the neo 2.5/6 is the number of wires.

You could Duo chip it, as mentioned, which is an excellent chip or If you want high end capabilities, you could sell the V5 / 6 console and get a newer console, then go to the extremes with a DMS3 or equivalent chip. The extra features are not necessary for most gamers though.
The swap method can get annoying at times and If I remember correctly, it doesnt work on some games.

Right, Neo 2.2 on versions 1 thru 4 required 8 wires, Versions 5 and 6 only required 5 wires. Pins 3,5 and 6 are not used because it doesnt support the tray eject. without the tray eject you cannot double swap with a original dvd game so it wont load dvd backups .You have to patch most EA games for them to load also.

Well, I guess that settled that...I do not have the tray eject...

So, a new console and mod chip sound like the way to go..??

What ver console do you recommend with which mod chip..??

Also, with the new mod chip will I have still have to use the game shark for boot up? I thought I had read in one of the forum letters that one of the new mod chips can be updated via CD...is this correct??

And last but not least...does anyone know a good installer in Canada...eh?

Thanks for your patience and all your help....Pegger!!

Read the Ultimate Sticky. There you will find most of your answers.
As for chips recommended, 3 come to mind, although there are many to chose from.
1. Duo - If you want to just play your games,DVDs and backups, this is the one you want.
2. DMS3 - High end Features and Flash upgradeable.
3. Matrix Infinity - High end Features and Flash upgradeable.

No swap procedures required with any of the No-Swap modchips.
