Zillions of mp3s on DVD,but it don't play!

I've tried copying mp3s onto blank DVDs, (using Nero 6), as I have stacks of mp3s on my hard drive and DVD+Rs have so much storage capacity. The idea is to play back through my Phillips DVD R75, which is linked to my setero system. Copying mp3s to CD-R works OK (though the DVD R75 has a habit of 'skipping' some of the tracks for no apparent reason,) but when I copy onto DVD+RW, the disk will only play on the computer. When I insert it into the DVD R75, message comes up 'Data on disk cannot be recognised'. Anyone got any ideas how to fix, or what I might be doing wrong?

Are you sure your Standalone Philips plays dvd+r?

Yes - it plays DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW. It records onto DVD+R and DVD+RW only.

did you convert from 42khz to 48khz

What the..? Who the..? How do I do that? I thought in Nero 6 you just copy(?) Never come up against this 42Khz v 48Khz.. More info please!

dvd standard is 48khz. if you kept them at 42khz, this is probably the reason for it not working.

i think besweet may do this. i never tried it myself, but have read about it.

Oooh! I had a look at BeSweet and it's a lot of technical stuff which is several miles over my head. Nothing immediately evident about converting from 42khz to 48khz. Could some kind person tell me exactly what I should be doing here? I don't know what 42Khz v48Khz is all about! Is it relevant that my .mp3s copy fine onto CD-R, which then play in my Phillips DVD R75, but when copied onto DVD+RW, will only play back through the computer? Humble apologies for tech ignorance.

These are good questions. For most of us one DVD would contain all of the mp3s in our collection and provide a very convenient storage method.

I note that almost any brand of settop DVD player today will play mp3s on CDs, but their specs never mention mp3s on DVDs.

One might suspect that the music industry sharks have persuaded the DVD manufacturers not to provide the capability of playing mp3s off DVD media.

I hope someone can shed some light on this area.

Ah, an interesting subject, surely worth investigating. It would be kewl to cut back on the storage space.

Ok I have read up on this subject and all I found out is that your DVD player must be able to support MP3 playback from DVD media.


I dont think the DVD player you have will support this type of playback.

You can do a search on the internet as I did and also click here and ask Da Boss what he would recommend.

I have researched this on the Internet, and I cannot find ANYTHING definitive on the subject.

It did take me over 2 hours of seaching just to find what i did, so it is not a popular subject as of yet. I'm sure it will be soon though cause it is a great idea in regards to the storage concept.
We will have to just have to wait and see how this topic evolves.

Couldn't you just start the file playing and use windows recorder to copy the music to the hard drive, then burn the resultant files back to a cd. Then you would have an audio disc! Windows Media 9 series player can also burn to cd.
