New Dreamcast, new problems...
I bought a DC this year, but some backups don't work oon my machine, but they do work in other machines. Some people here say it's because the way the CD is burnt, others say it's because it's, new protection and stuff like that. Will the "mod chip" solve my problems? Maybe if I wait, people will launch a new Utopia Boot disc?
Can anyone help? TX's |

yeh, in relation to this, i was wondering if anyone knows if the gd-rom laser has been replaced in the newer model DC by sega to ONLY read gd-rom and not cd-r's, which i read somewhere before. i thought they wouldn't do this since the announcement came pretty close to sega stopping production of DC consoles, but now i'm not so sure...

don't believe anything you read,
i played my backups at my cousins house whose dreamcast is brand spanking new and they boot immediately, if they work in one they will work in all, always write at 1x or don't complain regards webber |

i don't think sega would waste the money considering they knew they were stopping production...

I just wanna set the record straight for all those that still don't understand this. NEW DREAMCASTS DO PLAY BACKUPS!!! The only systems that do not play backups are in Japan! I bought my Dreamcast three weeks ago after the price dropped and was burning games a week later. The Dreamcast I bought was the one that came with the Smash Pack. I'm guessing the problem you had was the games weren't self-bootable and you didn't have the boot disc. Just a thought.

Maybe you got a defective unit with a weak laser. If you just bought it, return it to the store and get a different one.
