In Alcohol you don't have to make the setting manualy.
Just choose the Safedisc2/3 profile from drop-down-menu and all needed setting will be set.
The only thing you can try is to lower the read/write speed.

Far Cry (U.S. 5 CD Version) has SafeDisc 3.15.010.

I have several Lite-On 52246S (52x24x52) units and I can tell you for a fact, that it seems, with "perhaps" certain exceptions (since exceptions to every rule are always possible) that, these units are NOT able to burn a 1:1 copy of Far Cry to disc at the moment, at any speed, at least, not with the currently available software for the task (Alcohol, BW, CloneCD, etc).

The best way you can get around it for now is, make an image using Alcohol120%, BW4/5, etc and mount it via the Alcohol120% or Daemon Tools virtual drive, just make sure to install using expert mode and change the driver name to something else in order to avoid the blacklisting in Far Cry. Actually, the image is small enough to fit on a CD-R, so burn the image file to CD-R and mount it from there with a virtual drive, problem solved

Trust this helps, good luck.

No problem, you're welcome.

Yeah, it's not uncommon at all for the protection type and/or version to be different from one country to another.

One thing is pretty certain though, if SD v3.15.010 is giving the 52246s lite-on trouble, any version above that isn't going to be any better.

About your backup, if you use the virtual drive method I suggested, you pretty much do have a backup, not exactly what you wanted to have perhaps, but it's the next best thing and gets the job done.

Good luck.
