V4 PS2 with Magic 3 some simple questions

ok i havent had a ps2 or been in the ps2 scene since the ps2 was released,, i just got bored with it and sold it right after i bought it.

so i got another one,, the online play and the upcoming hard drive with FF XI was too much to resist.
so i traded a modded xbox for a ps2 with a magic 3 chip.
he says its a ver 4 ps2.

anything at all i need to know or be aware of with this magic 3 chip and/or the ver4 ps2.
btw i was just gunna get the online bundle from walmart and get the latest ps2 rev,, the one that supposedly has the new fixes and stuff but i couldnt wait lol.


basically i dont know a dang thing about the magic 3 chip how it works or how to use it.

can you fine gents gimmie some info or links to info or just throw me some info bout it.

also does the magic support burning straight rips,, meaning just copying the files from the cd dvd and burning them onto a cd-r or dvd-r ? instead of using a regular iso creation tool or doing a straight back up ?
im having trouble backing up socom 2 and i cant tell if its how i am doing it,, if i made a bad iso image or what... but it hits 99% burn in Nero and then locks,, so i have already wasted 2 dvd-r's i dont want to waste anymore.
if anything im asking is against the rules just simply tell me and i wont ask again.

Well I must say that the v4 ps2 is one that I most didnt like having. The eject tray eventually starts to stick and if it hasnt already your laser will be going out soon.

Also, the magic 3 modchip was one of the most buggy chips out there. If you do a search youll see that a lot of people had booting problems with that chip.


Lastly, remember because of DNAS you will only be able to play original games online with your modchip turned off. You may wanna read up on the Ultimate Info Sticky itll get you up to date on whats going on in the ps2 scene.


P.S. Interesting name, I take it youve read the book or books. I am currently on the Vampire Armand. I think that was the last one in the actual chronicles.

Too bad you already traded your Xbox for that old V4. I would have suggested that you just buy a brand new one and mod it with a magic V. As Tyler said the V4 is prone to laser problems and the magic 3 chip also has booting issues with some games and also ripped games.

As for burning your games there are many great tutorials on in the ultimate info stick that Tyler has already directed you to.

If it’s not to late see if your buddy will trade back....yeah right.

well it hasnt changed hands yet. but he was throwing in a GBA SP and mario 3 also since i included a 60 gig hard drive with the trade. im reluctant only cuz of the iffy chip and the known laser issues with the ps2.

i had another fella who wanted to trade me a ver 3 box with swap disks and a neokey and a butt load of games.

that trade i was even more reluctant to get simply becuase the swap disks required that you use the knife trick to open the tray ... yes ?? i thought thats what i read. am i wrong.
or would the ver 3 with swap disks and neokey be better ?

Im assuming that buttload of games were originals right? Remember to read the rules of our forum, we run a tight ship here.


As for ps2's I wouldnt recommend anything older than a v5.

As for chips, anything Neo will wear down your laser. Neo's are laser killers. And the NeoKey strictly only plays cdr backups. Absolutely no dvdr backups.


Like sped said, I would just get a new ps2 and new chip.

oh and yes ive read them, iv you like Anne rice check out Brian Lumley , his 13 book Necroscope series is an ABSOLUTE! MUST HAVE for vampire fans,
not to mention his Titus Crow books based off the H.P. Lovecraft Kthulu diaties (spell check). very strange but very detailed and very mind bending.

anyone got a ver 5 ps2 with a good chip in it they want to trade lol.

Well instead of jumping the gun just to have a PS2 now that you will be dissapointed with, wait until you can buy a new PS2 and new chip that you will be happy with for a long time.

i had heard about the lasers being bad all over the net but sheesh why didnt sony take care of that yrs ago when it first reared its ugly head.

arent the latest rev's ver 10 or whatever (the one that supposedly is shipped with the latest online bundle) suppose to have the heating and laser issues fixed ?

Sony did take care of it years ago..the V4 is YEARS old. Yes the V9's and V10's have very good lasers, in fact its the same laser that they put in the V7's. Also the V10 can come with or with out the online bundle just like all the other versions with the online bundle.

and YES very positive about the ver 4 with the magic 3 being something you want to stay away from.

years old, man,, i been away from the ps2 scene since, like i mentioned, right after the ps2 came out, so,, lol .

i need to make more money lol. or find someone to pay cash for my xtra xbox.
