Burned DVDs played on PS2

I think I have a v7, not sure though.

Model #: SCPH-39001

I think something was wrong with the DVD, though. Which may be the reason it did not work. I was curious because I don't own a DVD Burner yet, and was wondering if I should get a mod chip first. I'll be getting a Pioneer 106.
