If your ps2 can read dvdr movies then the possiblities of it reading ps2 dvdr games is greater. Its not 100% proof that it will work but its a very good test that it might. You may wanna use different media like Ritek to burn ps2 games on.
The ps2 that comes in a combo pack like the one you stated is usually a v7. Look for the SCPH # if its 39000X (x meaning any number from 1-9) then its a v7. If the SCPH # is 5000X then its more than likely either a v9 or v10. Tyler!
