Help a Newbie mod ps2

I have had people get MAD at me after i modded there console and it wouldnt play backups to well, I would adjust the laser and get it to play cdr games then it wouldnt load dvd, get it to load dvd then it wont load cdr. I just got tired of it. They always say the same thing, "it played just fine until you put the chip in". I am not saying i havent had v5's with bad lasers because i have but not like the v1 thru v4. No matter how clear you make it to people they always get disappointed.
