well seeing as noone else had the decency to answer you - yes you can make images of entire CDs - this is how games get distributed across P2P networks - and the most common types are ISOs and .bins. However, the .bin images also need a tiny .cue file (produced automatically when you make the image), which acts as a 'virtual' TOC.
