U have to ask Why would u want to?

And at the moment no-one has. This question has been raised several times regarding ps2 cd games onto a multi game dvd with menu at front.

I’m not 100% sure on this. But I think the PS2 switches into a different mode when a DVD is inserted. Or gos into PS2 game / movie mode. Like I said I’m not sure about this, this is only what I read awhile go some where. But I think if it dose switch modes, PS1 games wouldn’t play off a DVD.

One of the first thing the ps2 checks is if your disc is dvd or cd. If its dvd then the dvd mode of the laser stays in use and I dont think that you can use that in ps1 mode.

Theres also the speed issue. Ps1 games read at cd 2X where as dvd-r reads a hell of a lot faster. Most ps1 games crap out if u turn the drive speed up on the ps2 firmware so would have to be heavily doctored to be read from dvd-r. I don't think it is possible or if it is it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

An also as I said ps1 cdr's read very slowly compared to even ps2 cdr so it isn't gonna frazzle yr laser. In fact even when lasers start to go an can't read ps2 cdr u usually find they still read ps1 cdr perfectly.

Regards

thanks everyone.

so whant you're saying is that playing PS1 cd-r does'nt wear out the laser as of playing ps2 cd-r because of the reading speed?

well it all depends. If ur burns on DVD-R or cdr are crap then they will both wear out the laser quicker than normal because the laser will be straining harder to re-read and correct errors. use high quality dvd-r and cdr discs at appropriate speeds and u should have a good burn.

BTW, if u have a liteon burner or dvd drive, use a program called kprobe or the new nero cdspeed to scan ur freshly burned cdrs. it shows u the c1 and c2 errors on the disc. if there is any c2 errors, throw the disc in the rubbish bin. If there are more than 20,000 c1 total, then u should try burning again at a different speed to see if u can reduce the errors.

If u dont have a liteon drive, use nero cd speed. this can only tell u c2 errors if u dont have a liteon. but still, it is better than nothing and if there are any c2 errors, u know what to do.
