Problems w/ backups

hi i have a flip top cover for my ps2 (version 5) that i use with swap magic version 2.0. The games start up and play, but they often skip or freeze up, or certain things or functions/controls fail. does anyone else have this problem, and is there anything i can do about it?

yep fella its true you need to bite the bullet and get a real mod chip> i know they seem easier short term but i have cross examined loads of people in here between getting a cheapo fix i.e. flip top or a proper mod chip and its a straight answer every time

basically the flip top will not play all games, thats what at least 20 peeople both store owners and on this forum who know what their on about

my advice sell that flip top thing on am auction house or somewhere and pay a little little bit extra and gte a real chip

if not try magic disk 3 thats just come out may help with newer games

my god im a pro all of a sudden hahahahahaha

i dont see how a flip top would have any thing to do with it sounds like u got a bad burn or a scratched dvd or a dirty laser. well the v5 units r kinda old so it porb wont boot backups very. well i had gta vice city that did this i think i burn it to fast it skiped and all kinda stuff so i made a new backup on ritek dvd-rs and at 1x and it works fine now. but if i was u b4 getting a solder mod and paying for a install i would invest in a newer system like a v7 or v9 in case it is the laser. BTW what game is it ?

the discs are verbatim dvd-r. i dont actually copy them, my friend does on his computer because i dont have dvd-rw drive. he tested them on his ps2, also a version 5 i think, and they worked fine for him.

there r several options:

1. run a cleaning disc through ur ps2 (dirty laser)
2. swap magic doesn't support the games.
3. yr laser is knackered an u need a new ps2.

anyone else got any ideas?

Regards...hope this helps

well i cleaned the laser and still had problems. i know that swap magic supports these games because ive played them on the same version ps2 w/ the same version swap magic, and they worked fine. as far as the laser being worn out, i have no problems with any of my other (original) games. they play fine. could it just be worn out enough that it doesnt support backups?

another question-if the laser is bad and is losing backup sopport, how long will it last before it starts to cause problems with original games?
