i tried everything in disc juggler...no joy
downloaded psx copy, updated aspi layer (now windows media player don't work..but who cares !), clicked copy disk and HOORAY !!

cheers big papa, thanks for making me aware of psxcopy, only s/w that can do those pesky self-boots on my ageing writer.
