In this case, scanning the cab for a possible protection is just a waste of time, it's much easier just to install the soft and then check it.
Don't know about the format of the xbox disc, but I guess the old m$ added something mean, which probably stops you from even creating/mounting images and check them. As mentioned, I don't know much about the format....
