Mafia
After backing up Mafia, installation takes -far- too long. If I use CD-RW's instead of CD-R's, the installation is a breeze. Any suggestions to circumvent this? Thank you for your time.

That's a new one. Only thing I can think of is writing the cdr's at lower speed, maybe you're writing too fast for those cdr's. cdrw's can only be written at their specified max speed, but cdr's can be written too fast so they develop errors.

Perhaps that's it. It was on some new Fujifilm cd's I got. They were labelled 48x, but I can't get the damned things to work at anything but 12x. Maybe I'll try like 6x. And I bought these because someone said they were good...

Okay, even with a different CD-R (a higher quality Japanese one) the game still installs like ^#$%#. I used the "Safedisc 2" settings in Alcohol 120%, as that's the protection on the cd. I also tried CloneCD. It seems to only install well if I use a CD-RW. I mean this copy works, but it's not fun to watch the progress bar move so slowly on a 2.3 Ghz XP processor. MS RalliSport Challenge does the same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have two different cdrom readers, like for example a dvdrom and a cdwriter ? Try it in different cdrom readers, maybe a friend or relative's.

Oh wait ! I just got a new thought
(cue sound of "DING"). Anyway, I read somewhere that DVD-writers (and DVDroms ?) can sometimes only read cdrw's, this has to do with the intensity/color of the beam. A DVDwriter has a red beam, and because of that is far more compatible with cdrw's than cdr's. The only thing I know for sure is that cdrw's are more compatible with dvdroms/dvdwriters than cdrs, and it has something to do with the color of the beam. Can someone who doesn't have a swiss cheese for memory help me out here ? So are you trying to read it in a dvdrom (maybe same thing there) or dvdwriter ?

I was trying the CD's in my CD-RW - a LiteOn 52x24x52. Perhaps I'll try them in my DVD-ROM. I'm also having trouble with the PSX game Chrono Cross - the sound stutters a lot. I wonder if this CD-RW just sucks?
