What version PS2 do you have? I would definately try a different brand media. The first ever cd-rw discs I bought back in the day were Great Quality. Talk about a deceiving name. It's odd that you say that about the GQ DVD-RWs. Have you tried regular GQ DVD-Rs?
The reason it's weird is because I use GQ CD-Rs exclusively. They're awesome. They're super cheap ($7 for 50), have a protective covering on the top (unlike silver-topped CD-Rs, which flake off for no apparent reason), and I've had no problems with them for the year and a half that I've been using them.
Of course, DVD-R may be a whole other story, but I hope not, because the price sure is right.
