PS2 v4 with Messiah

You can absolutely use a Messiah, Magic, or Apple on your v4.

I have done Magics and Apples, and my own system is a GT3 v4 with an Apple.

However... did your machine USED TO read DVD-R and now it isn't? In that case you've degraded the laser and need more than a new chip.

But if you've NEVER gotten a DVD-R to work... then yes a new chip will help. It's very hard to boot DVD-R with Neo2.2, which is why Neo2.5+DVD was released... but both of those chips are BAD on your laser when reading DVD's.
