the most consistent and fastest method for me is either xgman or windows explorer on a number of xbox machines. Also, you must have the latest internet explorer installed on your PC.
pc to xbox --> 5 to 7mbyte/sec xbox to pc --> 6 to 9mbyte/sec These are peak sustained speed for large files.
