I successfully got my V4 PS2 modded a few days ago, and it works fine. One problem, though. I got a Madden 2003 burned on DVD-R, and it loads. Well, I burned Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution on a Verbatim CD-R...and it doesn't load. The PS2 recognizes the game, and when I go to the browser screen, the blue disc icon comes up. I select it, wait a few seconds, and it takes me back to the same browser screen.
Is it just my laser? Cause I've heard reports of V4 PS2s having bad lasers. Also, I can play all my other CD and DVD based games.

This is a message board not a chat room. You don't always get a response within 1 hour.
How did you burn this game?

My PS2 still won't read CD-R backups...
What should I do? I have Messiah 2, and I have a V4 PS2.

Maybe it was just a bad rip of the game.

V4's are meant to have really piss poor lasers, so that could be the problem.
especially if its not a new v4.... sell it and get a v7...its the only way..

Couldn't I just buy and get a new laser installed without selling it?

Before you go get a new laser or ps2, try making a direct burn of a cd game using CloneCd and the tutorial instead of burning something made by a rip kit. This could just be a bad rip. This way we will know if it is a bad rip(my guess) or a bad laser.

Just a note. I recently mooded a guys PS2. When it weas shipped to me he had a copy of Thrill Kill in it. This is a PSX game but the problem I had with it is similar. When his copy was booted as a PSX game it booted as an audio cd. So for the hell of it I tried it as a PS2 ga,e . Same thing as your copy happened. It acknowledge it as a disc in the browser screen but when you select the disc it brings you right back to browser. I question him and he said it was borrowed from a friend, and it worked in his PS1. So I attempted to make a copy of his copy and see what happened. I did a brief check to see that the game was the same size as the Thrill Kill that I own, and it appeared to be OK. However, when I went to make the copy in CloneCD I noticed that it was about 1k larger. So my guess is that you just have a corrupt backup. It could be your fault for doing a bad burn or it could be a bad rip. Why don't you just back it up at original size?

That also could be one of your problems.
