The burner can burn at 2x, but the disks you have can only be written at 1x, so that is normal.
Advice - good cheap media that works in many standalone dvd players etc, are dvds with the dark purple Ritek dye. (RITEKG03 or G04) Also, have a look around for modified firmwares also, I'll dig up a link if you want it. The modified firmware will allow you to burn 1x rated riteks and 2x, and it will allow you to rip protected dvds faster than the normal 2x allowed.
