ps2 went black screen

I would be willing to bet you that there IS some kind of bridging on the CD/DVD controller, that is the most common reason for a black screen. All I can suggest is do your best to desolder all the pins on that chip and try to boot it again. Then have your mod fitted professionally, I came to this conclusion the hard way. Just don't have the work done by Bill @ freedomlives.com, he does neat work, but is a complete jerkoff and won't take responsibility if something is done improperly, regardless of what his website says... You've been warned...
