what u discribed is a symtom of usig incorrect wire during modchip installation.
If u not using right quality wire on your signal connections then u will get problem booting PS2 backups. Came across this wen I first started chipping and thought u could use any old thin wire. Always use kynar insulated awg30 wire wrapping wire for best results.
