well, you might want to turn your anti-virus thing back on if that wasn't the problem.
Most firewalls are normal apps, so they would appear somewhere in "programs" on the start menu. So, there is usually an option to turn it off under the firewall's shortcut.
Or, you could load up task manager (shortcut is pressing ctrl+alt+delete once for win98+). Go into the "Processes" tab and sort by user. One of the programs that are running under your username would be the firewall.
If you are having problems and don't see the firewall icon , it is less likely the firewall and more a hardware/pc settings problem.
