PS2 versions. What ones don't i want?

I am looking at buying a second hand PS2 and then messiah 2 modding it. What version PS2's don't I want. I know some have problems, but i am not sure what problems and which models.

if i was u i would get a ver 7 which is 39001 the newest out yet

The laser is weaker on the older ones, making it tougher to read dvd-r's.

Pretty much anything you get before a version 7 will be used anyway. So the laser allready has some use, and is not as good as an original most of the time.

You don't want anything pre-v5. They are ****e to do an install on. Plus they are older.
