Just let me add some more info bout that.

The first player, released by Echelon, is known as Xing HK-Player. As clarky already stated, it's the pure crap. Picture quality is the most awful I ever seen.

The DreamVCD-Player that you (still) could buy at lik-sang.com seems very hard to find, but has been ripped as far as I know now. It's said to have very nice quality and works the way you described it. Pop in the Player disk, then swap to VCD.

Gyplay is actually just an MEPG1-Player and it's biggest backdrop is probably that the video has to be burned along with the Player onto a disk. But it delivers good quality and the sound is good as well.

The one that works for me best so far is truely DCDivX. If u use DivX 5 together with the recommended settings, it's no problem to get even more than 4 hours of video on one disc in VCD-quality. As long as you stick with these settings and don't try to put exessive action movies on disc, it shouldn't hang. The only problem with this player might be the sound that has to be lowered quite a lot to make the video work right. I'm no audio-addict, I don't have Dolby for my DVD-Player, but even for me the sound on this player is often hard to stand. BTW, the latest version of DCDivx is Beta 4. But it's said to have some more bugs above the predessor. So you better stick to Beta 3.
