choppy audio

HI to everyone
I'm new to backing up my DVD's, and I ran into a problem. I used smartripper to rip the DVD and DVDX to encode my movie. The result was fine with the movie and the synchronazation was fine, but when played back the audio was kind of choppy throughout the first 35 minutes. Can anybody give me some tips to make the audio sound better?
