R-Mod no Solder mod chip

I just installed a R-mod no solder modchip in my PS2 version 5.
I have a gameshark version 2.01 or above.
I selected a code and did everything right but when I go to hold in the eject button the reset light turns orange and makes a noise but the tray does not open.
What am I doing wrong.

Either one of the ribbons is not in properly or the chip is faulty, check the ribbons, if they are in ok then looks like u may have a faulty chip.

I have come across this sort of thing before and usually it is a sign of a faulty chip. Sorry to be the barer of bad news but that is what it sounds like.

lufcfan: sorry, but no, you're wrong. given the information that the eject light turns orange, the chip is operational.

kaylebug: its most likely one of the little 'plugs' have come out..

i had a no-solder mod in my v4, and the little cable often gets disconnected. they can easily get caught on the metal case and fall out. check it again, and try to push it in there as firm as possible.

R-mod

I have tried it several times. I even tried it with the case open so I could see that the cables were seeded tight.
What else could it be?

you have the wrong version No-Solder mod?

there are 2 different ones, one for v4 and one for v5/v6 (or is there 3, 1 for v4, v5, v6 ?).

R-mod

I have the right version which fits version 5 and 6.
Version 4 is a totally different chip and would not even fit in version 5/6.
Any more help out there?

I'm having the same problem with my brother's PS2. After holding down the eject button for a few seconds, it makes a high pitched whistling sound, pauses for about 3 seconds, then makes the sound again. The sounds occur when the tray is SUPPOSED to be ejecting and going back in. I removed then reseated the chip and both ribbon cables, but that did not help. Everything else functions as it should. A quick press of the eject button ejects the tray and another makes the tray go back in. All originals still play as normal. Swap Magic discs do as they are supposed to. This leads me to believe that the chip itself is faulty. His is a version 5 as well. The chips we received are good for V5/V6/V7. The same version chip works fine on my V7, though I have not tried his chip on my machine. Kinda don't want to mess with mine since it's working, though that may be the only way to tell for sure whether it is the chip or not.

R-mod

That is exactly what my machine does. Where did you get the no swap chip. I got mine at console source.
I am going to exchange it and see if that helps.

LUFC fan was correct, Sounds like faulty chip.

The fact that the light turns orange does not mean that the chip is 100% When the chip is flashed it's most likely come under errors.

Here's food for thought, If you plug a fridge in and the light comes on when you open the door, does that mean that the fridge is working?

Sorry, I just h8 people that start the YOU ARE WRONG statements.

My chips came from GameGizmo. Will be calling them today to see what can be done about the one that's giving me problems.

Just got off the phone with a support guy at GameGizmo. I explained to him that everything works as it is supposed to EXCEPT for the "exchange eject" function of the chip. He said it sounded like a defective chip. He's supposed to be emailing me now with RMA instructions for replacement.

R-mod

Thanks for the info. I just requested an RMA number today from Console Source. I will let you know when I get my new chip. It might take a while since it is from Canada.
Let me know how yours comes out.
Thanks agian

I have seen this alot. If the ps2 will do a normal eject with the chip installed but not open when you do the r-mod swap then the chip is bad, if it was the ribbon cable or plug then it wouldnt eject at all.

Why do you think so many are bad. I don't want to get another bad one. Don't they usually test them before they send them out.
