GBA Save corruption

Does anybody have any ideas on why my save data keeps getting corrupted in Golden Sun?

I'm using a Flash Advance Xtreme USB with a 256 MBIT Xtreme flash card.

I've hunted round for information on patches, but it _does_ save most of the time so I'm not sure whether this is the right approach to the problem or not.

I think I need to learn more about how this hardware works, D'Oh!
