Keyboard and mouse?

I already own a pc, a P4 2.2g with ATI 9700 pro,1gb ddr ram..... but u can't play multiplayer with just one pc? While ps2 can.....and it can save tones of trouble and money... but its a bit hard to get use to with ta controls...hehe....
All i want to know is can i used it in Timesplitter and quake3? cause i got those from my bro without the cover and stuff...so i'm sure is it my keyboard or the game....
