bighap/.....

thanks man...it really makes no sense at all.....

It is to my understanding that it is all pretty simple....

you have a good cpu
with windows 2000/ME (used only for ps2 games)
a new pioneer 104 dvdr
apple media
a large 120gig 7200rpm drive
new games

the games load onto the harddrive fine but always error when you try to burn......cant explain it......

Ok, is this how your system is set up.....?

1st harddrive- Primary Master on 1st ide channel
2nd harddrive-Primary Slave on 1st ide channel
Pioneer A04 - Secondary Master on 2nd ide channel
DVD-ROM - Secondary slave on 2nd ide channel..

This config. should work with no problems.
This is exactly how I have mine set up
(Except I have a 3rd ide channel with another harddrive and cd burner)

have you tried enabling dma for all your devices, and getting the lastest update drivers for your motherboard etc. What chipset has your motherboard got.

has your hard drives got bad sectors.

try removing some of your pci cards, they may interfere, it could be anything,

try these they may work or may not dunno

have you played with the bois settings???

BG....

yes that is how I have it set up....

and the primo dvd software is on the default settings.......

willow......

I have not enabled the dma settings, I have left everything at the default settings....I just reformatted the entire harddrive and placed some ps2 dvd based games on it so it is all default......
and that I added the psxengine to the cpu.....

also the primodvd is all set to the default settings except the autorun is off.....on both the dvdr and the dvd rom.......

Also I should be able to take a backup and create a image from that and place that onto my harddrive right?

couldn't make sense from your last line in your sentence, but i highly recommend enabling the dma, makes the beast run smoother, takes the load off your machine,

right click my computer, properties, can't remember win me, i'm using windows xp, ........ hardware manager or device manager - somethin like that.... look at the cd/dvd controllers and hard drive controller or anytrhing that deals with them, there should be a box which says dma enabled make sure thaat you have it ticked, if this doesn't work, you will still have better overall system performance.

make s;ure u are using 80-pin cable not 40,

willow....

something kinda strange happened....
I went to check the DMA settings and what happened was that the dvdr was checked.......but the dvd rom drive....

froze when I went to the settings tab.....this happened 3 times on me.....I wonder if my dvd rom drive is bad?.......

but that does no explain why I receive errors when burning from the harddrive.....or does it?

Try unticking DMA and use PIO instead via the Device Manager for your IDE channels. I have a A04 set as a Master on the Secondary IDE and a DVD-ROM as a Slave to that. Never had a problem as of this date. See if that helps. Like it was said before dont multitask your PC while burning, have antivirus software closed and don't have loads of programs running at the same time even though the drive has buffer underrun protection.

See if that helps.!

What drive are you using to create the images on the HDD? are you using the burning or the DVD-ROM, if using the DVD-ROM who is to say the the image actually is being created correctly on HDD, may just be the high content games that are failing. DVD-ROM freezing when altering settings? this sounds like a typical driver issue with ME, as pre mentioned get rid and install XP pro.

still busted?.....

So the latest is that I upgraded to 2000 professional, and cannot do disc-to-disc copies off of a burned game.......(not original)....
cannot even build an image of the backup....then to burn that image onto apple media......

Could it be that the dvd rom is going bad?.......or could it be that the motherboard is just a piece of sh**?.....

I never have anything else opened while using primo.....

I think tomorrow I will buy a new dvdrom drive and install it onto a different cpu and see what happens.......good idea?

Could anyone explain what the heck is happening?

Are you trying to use your dvd-rom as your reader and the burning the image with your dvd burner? If yes, have you tried using your dvd burner as your reader?

dust2dust.....

yes I did change the jumper settings....and No it is not connected to the harddrive.....it is on a seperate ide channel.....only the dvd rom and dvdr are on 1 ide channel.....and the harddrive is on a seperate ide all by itself.......

I am thinking it is motherboard problems......but will try some different stuff to try to boil down the possibilities....

any other ideas?

Udate.....

So here is an update .......

Just want to say thanks to everyone who helped me here, I really appreciate you all taking the time......

I beleive it was a bad dvd rom drive.........

Well, so this is what I did......

Put my dvd burner in my compaq with windows 2000

Connected 1 of my harddrives
and the burning worked fine.....
Actually read from the dvdr using a princo disc and worked also...

Put the dvdrom inthe compaq cpu with windows 2000

Kept getting errors.....no matter what I did,,,,,

Went out and bought a new dvd rom and seems to work fine....so far so good.....

the dvdrom drive still seems to work, but I guess for this stuff it is not any good anymore.....

Here is one that maybe one of you can help me out with also....
(this is much easier)....lol

In order to put games onto a harddrive WITHOUT having windows operating system on it.....What do I need to do?

fdisk the harddrive and create 1 primary dos partition, and format that partition?........

If yes is this all I need to do?........If no then do I need windows on the harddrive?

Also, can I upgrade my harddrive (with ps2 games on it) from windows ME to Windows 2000 without loosing my ps2 games?...

thanks again everyone for the help.......glad we figured it out...
