first of all thanks to all for replying to other posts but now i have another problem i know i have a v4 ps2 with i think a neo 4 modchip i think the chip allows for dvd backup booting (does it??)
and if so do i do it the noraml boot method i.e with dvd regionx swap method....sorry wasnt sure if i should have posted this in this section but since you guys hwlped me out so quickly in the past , i thought that this was the place to post thanks

p.s should i get messiah chip or stick with my neo??

The Neo 4 chip is garbage. I would get a Messiah or Messiah 2 but if you insist on keeping your Neo 4 you can read the boot procedure here

As bighap said, The NEO 4 is a crap chip. Look to upgrade as soon as you money permits.

All neo chips, no matter if its a neo2 or a neo4 pulse 5 volts to the laser instead of the 3.3 volts it normally recieves. A capacitor is installed to help this but it does not prevent damage. It only slows it down. I would junk the neo mod before it damages the laser. So many wires for such limited functions, (it dont boot dvd-r without a swap as well as alot of EA games must be patched to load).My advise is to save the PS2, buy a messiah2, magic3, Origa-chip or even a no-solder mod, anything but a neo chip. In the long run you will be glad you did.

i have the neo 4 in my version 4, i cant get it to play dvd backups either.

what about the capacitor i pulled off and of course lost since i moved. does anyone have a # for that capacitor and can i buy it to replace it if i want to go to a messiah or magic chip?

If you are going to use the Messiah Or Magic chips there is no need for the capacitor...... Although your NEO 4 may have already done the damage.....
