Yes the apple chip does everything (direct boots everything)

Get a Pioneer A03 or A04..... You could also try the new Sony drive that is coming out (although unproven for PS2 backups since its not available yet)

DVD burners will not support Clone CD and ClonyXXL.... You will still need a Clone CD compatible CD-RW drive to use them...
