Throw out your sony !
 First off all make sure your player can handle cd-r. Some players, which are able to play (s)vcd may refuse to play them, because the discs don't match their specs criteria. In Nero, e.g. you can choose from 2 settings for creating (s)vcds. Get Nero, try to write the normal way first (default settings). If you player refuses to play the disc, try the altered settings. Just a hint, maybe this helps.
