Question Can someone help a newbie

I just bought a used PS 2 and as soon as I bought it.... I realized that there is no way to buy all the games I want to play cuz there are sooo many good games. So I decided that I must get a mod-chip... but the problem is-- I know nothing about burning PS 2 games and nothing about mod chips.

I read this message board a few times and I have determined that I want to get a Magic 2 and I'm pretty sure I have a version 4 PS2 (it doesn't have the screws that's supposed to be on version 5's--I think.) Now the question is-- where can I get the cheapest Magic 2 Version 4 chip and get it installed (maybe someone can refer me to someone in the Buffalo, NY area)?

Also... I see a lot of talk about DVD and CD based PS2 games-- is there a list of games that are cd or dvd based, or could you only tell by looking at the actual disks (and what would you look for)? I don't have a DVD-RAM and I just don't have the money to make such a big investment to purchase a DVD burner, a PS 2, a mod chip plus installation all within such a short time. I need to know if there are enough cd based PS2 games to backup with my cd burner or if there are places that sells backed up DVD's.

I know this is a lot of questions for someone new in this message board but I know that you guys would have the expertise to help me. Thanks in advance.

Magic chip 2 will not work with v4's as far as I know. I think the blue messiahs will work with it though

Magic2 works with Ver.4's..Maybe just the Ver.4-R's cause problems I hear..koojoo make sure you got Ver.4..Don't assume it you do..Look through some of the threads on this forums..Because people are getting tire of answering same questions over and over on PS2 issue with Modchip,Burning and Burner issues and etc..

I was pretty surprised to see that I have a version 4 too as I was almost certain it was version 5 but when I opened up the expansion bay... I didn't see the screws that the version 5 supposedly had. This is the link I followed to determine my version number

http://www.modchips4sale.com/which_chips.htm

They don't show a pic of version 4's so I don't know for sure but I'm pretty certain the screws aren't there. I think NightCrawler also said that if you only see two screws it's version 4 and more for version 5.

Anyway.. I wasn't aware that Magic 2 has a problem with version 4 R... is Blue Messiah a better alternative? Thanks in advance.

Shoot! By the way you said you didn't see any screw right? From Red arrow pointing the Screw? Are you sure? Double check. If not then you got Ver.4-R. No doubt. But usually Ver.4-R has DC of 1C.

I don't see red screws or any screws like the one shown in the picture on the link. Should I take the box apart and look for it?

In any case... if I do have a version 4 R-- what mod chip should i get instead?

I recommend that you wait..There are several new chips on the way or it's out..Apple Chip for example. but A Chip only works for Ver.5-7..So You can gamble with Magic2 but wait for the Cyclone..
Looks like this chip will give run for it's money beyond..
Two features that makes cyclone chip work is Macrovision removed and Region Free mode. Watch every DVD from all over the world except Hong Kong since they don't carry region Protection usually..
Wait for C chip only if you got the patience..It's faster than you think..There are 2 types on the way..
C chip lite has everything except the 2 options I mentioned while the full has ALL..
