Need Some Modchip/patch Help From All The Experts Out There

Hey everyone and thanks in advance, i just bought a NO-Solder V4 chip (pretty new) and i had some questions about patching games. i know this site is crazy about saying the word "backup copy" but i downloaded some games through irc and aol. This chip says it direct boots ea and regular games...does that mean it does not need to be patched??

At the top says...BOOTS DIRECT, REQUIRES SWAP, and NEEDS PATCH...for my chip it just says SWAP...so the cd's do not need to be patched??????
