I think he is suggesting that the source cd was scratched and lead to a bad copy.
Alternatively, you may have copied 'on the fly' which can cause errors - I don't believe your problem has anything to do with the copy protection kicking in - just a bad copy Check out the Clone CD and GCW for information on such things as RAW and DAO etc. Read and you will learn.
