please help a newbe

listen im thinking of buying a dvd writer but as we all know they are very expensive so i want to get some advice first. first of all i have question. i recently saw a writer on a catoloag and it said that it can only write up to 3.7 gb or something. now is it just me or that is about as usful as, well nothing. most playstation 2 dvds are much bigger than that no
so if any one has advice or brand names or any thing that would asist me in buying my dvd writer i would really apreaciate it.
