Messiah with V3

hey

i have a question i want to have my Pal V3 chipped with a messiah chip.
but i hear from a lot of people that the V3 cant play DVD-r and they say its better for me to take a neo 2.2 chip but i dont want that chip coz i have to boot then.
will i still be able to watch DVD movies ??
