I had exactly the same problem... but my machine played for 10 minutes before dying... Then the screen was blank, no picture, no sound, but the drive would open and close fine, but the drive would not spin up.
The problem turned out to be a blown Resistor... which is easily replaced with a more durable quality resistor.... Jap shit, what can I say? May not be the problem with yours , but thought it may be useful for you to know. Cheers.
