Sims help

Hi, i installed a copy of houseparty onto my computer(it was a burned copy) and it installed all the files except for a tmp file. Then when I tried to run the game it said something like discerror or read error or something like that and I decided to uninstall it. But then it ended up unistalling everything! So then i installed the sims and living large again, but when I started the game up again all my houses and families were gone!. It's just back to the tutorial with the newbie house. But when I looked at the maxis file in my harddrive, I found that my userdata 1 still has my photoalbum and characters and stuff. I've tried taking out the template userdata and all the other userdatas, but those didn't work and i restored them again. So now how do I get my old game back?
