No-CD patch for Alien Nations

After exhaustive searching I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't exist. A search of this forum revealed the same question posted twice last year with no replies.
I want to be able to play against my wife on our LAN but I'd rather not fork out more $$ for a 2nd CD.
Someone mentioned that if I was to copy the music files from the CD to my harddrive I'd be able to start the game and then "walk" the CD to my wifes computer but there isn't any obvious music files on the CD.

Any ideas/info for me?
