bad mp3 rip

I don't have a burner personally, but a friend of mine does. I only know its a mac burner. I gave him many mp3's to put on one disc, but he returned them with only half burned, as the rest were 'bad'. Apparently, he had to change them into aiif format to burn them so a normal stereo system could read them as music, (I didn't know burning mp3's as mp3's is a storage only thing) and some wouldn't successfully change format. I know the details are general, but is there any way I can avoid giving him bad mp3's that won't burn properly?
