Mechcommander 2 ??

does anyone know how to make a copy of mechcommander 2?? I'm trying to make a backup cause i have baby and always scratching my cds. I made a copy of it and it works but when i doubleclick on it and s tart it up it says insert cd. I inserted regular cd and ran it then took it out when i had game loaded and put copy in and worked fine... does anyone know problem why it says insert cd, but then runs after i get it loaded with original??
