PLEASE! PS2 HELP!! PLEASE HELP!

Hi,
I am new to PS2 . I just bought it a few days back. I have a PAL PS2. The worst thing is it only reads orginal games, and it really sucks... I can't play any backup or copied games... I searched and found the PS2 MOD chip, but I have no idea what that is. Do I get to play all backup and copied games, how many do i have to buy ? Is it 1 modchip for 1 game ? Well, please will anyone reply to me . If u can help....... please reply to this post. Thanks a lot!
