How to backup protected PC games????

I am quite new to the PC game backup, have done a lot with PSX backup with CDRWIN, and patches!

How to do that for the PC game?

Some of the game after burned with CDRWIN, not able to install to hard disc not to mention to fix later on?

where is the best place to find the patches?

the patches are so confusing for PC and asked years, version for the patch!!

much worse than PSX!!!
